Jewellery Care
I want you to enjoy your handmade jewellery designs for as long as possible and a few tips should help keep them in good condition.
They are not designed to be worn in the sea, the swimming pool, when bathing or while engaging in vigorous activities! When applying perfumes or creams allow them to dry thoroughly before putting on your jewellery.
Most metals will oxidise with prolonged exposure to the air. I therefore recommend storing items with the anti-tarnish tab provided, in an airtight bag or container. I store all my jewellery this way and find it very effective at keeping the silver shiny for longer. The anti-tarnish tabs usually last for 12 months and I will replace them on request. For good measure, storage away from direct sunlight is also best.
Sterling silver and copper can be cleaned with a metal cleaning/polishing cloth. Liquid cleaners should only be used on entirely silver pieces as these may damage gemstone or glass beads.
I have recently started using anodized Niobium in my chainmaille pieces. Anodized Niobium is hypo-allergenic and has a similar strength to Sterling silver. The colour is an oxide layer caused by electrolysis. It's quite hard wearing but can be scratched, and can wear off by rubbing, so some care is needed. To clean a mixed Niobium and silver piece first use warm soapy water - this will clean the Niobium. Then remove any tarnish from the silver with a silver cleaning cloth. Do not immerse the whole piece in silver dip or liquid cleaner as this can strip the colour or cause it to fade.
